What type of roach am I dealing with?

There are many types of cockroaches that may infest your home. Although they vary in characteristics, all are as unappealing as the next.  Sizes vary between ½ inch and 1.5 inches and colors range from tan and brown, to black and red. Below is a list of the cockroaches you may come in contact with or experience an infestation of.

  • American Roaches: Larger and reddish brown colored with a lighter marking behind its head. Can grow as long as 1.5 inches.
  • Brown Banded Roaches: Tan colored roach about ½ inch long. The brown bands across its body give this roach its name.
  • German Roaches: Smaller ½ inch tan colored with stripes on its back running the length of the body.
  • Oriental Roaches: Dark brown, sometimes black with poorly developed wings and 1 inch in size.
  • Smokybrown Roaches: Deep brown colored and just over 1 inch in size.
  • Wood Roaches: Dark brown, sometimes black, and ¾ inch to 1.25 inch in size.

What are the problems associated with roach infestations?

Roaches can carry a variety of serious diseases that can be spread through their feces and defensive secretions.
