Spiders

What type of spider am I dealing with?

Have you noticed a painful blister that has two puncture marks, or a red/purple blister or rash? You may have been bitten by a spider! Spider bites are usually minor, but occasionally you may become victim to a black widow or brown recluse bite.

Rather the spiders are crawling across your floor, dangling from your ceiling, or building a web in your windowsill, you don’t want them there! Before calling a spider control professional like Critter Control, or attempting spider control yourself, you will need to identify the spider and the common areas the spider has shown up at.

The different spiders pose different threats, but all are creepy! Some spiders can create complications for you and your family, and some may just be gross to look at. Either way, you will need to identify the problem spider before you attempt spider control yourself, or call a professional.

The most dangerous and threatening spiders:

  • Black Widow Spiders: All black with a red hourglass shape under the abdomen.
  • Brown Recluse Spiders: Brown/tan color with a dark brown violin marking on the back.

What are the problems when dealing with a spider infestation?

Spiders may bite as a defense mechanism. Black widows bites will cause severe pain and brown recluse spider bites will cause pain and can produce an open, ulcerating sore. Most spiders will build nests in unique places and can be difficult to find. Web-building spiders will build nests in corners and windowsills, creating an unsightly nuisance problem.

Common Spider Habits

Black widow spiders will spin their webs near the ground and in protected areas. They can be found in boxes, under eaves, and other undisturbed areas. The brown recluse spiders can be found indoors in storage areas, clothing, shoes, and dark recesses. Spiders will not bite humans unless they feel threatened or intruded on.
